My Family

My Family
by
Elijah Oakes
(age 11)

My family is like a painters palette. Full of many colors.
My mother's like the lightest green. She's full of life like a tree. Growing.
My fathers like a deep deep blue the waves that beat on the rocks.
His eyes are fierce but full of love and care like a sailor's.

My two little bros want to have a personal chef though we have no butlers.
They need their care. They need their share. They always act all-knowing.
They bite they scratch and sometimes throw a tantrum but then they sound like peacocks.
Its kinda funny when they talk because they speak English but don't speak the same language.
They're funny little brothers.

My family is like a tree in autumn a tree not like the others.
My family is like the feeling you feel when you wake up and its snowing.
My family is like the sight that you see when you're walking on the docks.
My family is like the piano book right next to the teachers.

My family is like the eye on the lion like no other creatures.
My family is like the runner in a race and he doesn't win the effort is what's showing.
My family is efficient but my sister just a snob just joking but she looks silly in her crocks.
My family like an instrument but I wish had no sisters.

The Wind

The Wind
by
Elijah Oakes, age 7

I am at home.
The wind is blowing hard.
It is carrying snow.
The trees shake, the ground quakes
and the house is covered in snow.
It's ten degrees outside.

In my warm house, we eat our dinner
while we wonder about hibernation.
How do the animals survive?
It's super snowy and outside
our bird feeder has no birds.
It is not fun outside.

After dinner, I brush my teeth
as I get ready for bed
and then take one last look outside.
I fall asleep listening
to the sound of the wind.
