The Ancient World

The Ancient World
by
Zachoia Cooper
(age 13)

Mesopotamia,
Two fast, flowing rivers
Singing the river’s sweet song
And towering, colossal ziggurats
So imposing and strong.
and
Egypt,
With cold-hearted pharaohs
Worshiped as god, yet just king
Gigantic, wondrous pyramids
A tomb when the death bells would ring.
and
Israel,
God’s holy, perfect law
That still stands true today.
the Holy of Holies-required
“Til Jesus took our sins away
and
Babylon,
The ornate Ishtar Gate
Magnificent, lovely and, blue
Lush, flowering Hanging Gardens
An elegant sight to view
and
Greece,
Exalted,canonized gods
Mythical, pagan, not there.
Skillful athletes (or Olympians)
Compete with prestige and fanfare
and
Rome,
With greedy, corrupt emperors
Make Rome bigger than it should be
They send their fierce,clever armies
Capturing city after city.

The Ancient World
Malicious, magnificent, mysterious

(origninal and unedited)
