After King Solomon died, Israel had a terrible problem. Ahab! Ahab was an evil king. Everyone started to worship a false god, who was called Baal. Ahab had 450 prophets of Baal. God had only on prophet - the faithful Elijah.
Elijah, who was loyal to God, challenged Ahab and the prophets of Baal to a contest. The evil prophets killed a bullock to put on the altar. For hours the false prophets called on their god to send fire, but there was no answer, because there was no god. Elijah now place a bullock on his altar. He dug a humungous trench around the altar. He ordered buckets of water to be poured all over the bullock, the altar, and the trench.
Elijah then called on God. Blazing fire shot down from heaven. I consumed the bull, the altar, and even the dirt. The water in the trench completely evaporated. The people, who witnessed this powerful display, fell down and exclaimed, "The Lord is God - almighty, powerful God!"
