Puddle Jumping

 Puddle Jumping

by

Ashley Jones

(age 15)

Running, jumping, then a splash
Going by with a dash.
The rain had been pouring all of yesterday,
But now it is time to go outside and play!
Skipping, hopping, by and by
I'm going to make a big mud pie.
Jumping in puddles and splashing a ton
Getting wet is so much fun!
Laughing, playing, memories made
Taking off my boots, aside they're laid.
Running through the puddle, what a blast!
One giant leap, and then a big
 SPLASH!!!

The Christmas Basket

The Christmas Basket
by
Ashley Jones
(age 15)

I'm just a little Christmas basket, spreading Christmas joy.
After a long journey I found myself in the hands of a little boy.
He opened me up and looked in to see
He wondered..... "I thought nobody cared for me".
Inside of me there was fruit, candy, and a few little toys
Everything that would interest any young boys.
And at the bottom of me there was a book, the boy was happy, he knew how to read
A note inside declared it is the only thing you will ever need.
He opened it up and began to read,
After a while he looked quite pleased.
"There is a man who cares for me,
He loves everyone, why couldn't I see?"
At that moment the boy decided to live for his King.
Honor to God he never ceased to bring.

Many years later we see him traveling to tell his story,
About the Man who loves everyone so much, He left Heaven's glory.
He preached, and many people got saved,
He still wanted to know who sent the basket, so they could be repaid.
After the service when people began to leave,
An old lady came up and told him something he almost couldn't believe.
"I sent you that basket many Christmas Eves ago,
I just wanted you to know that Jesus and I love you so."
"But how did you know", he stammered, "that I had such a need?"
"I saw you on the streets one day", she replied,"your eyes showed your plead".
"Jesus put you on my heart and told me what to do,
So I put together a Christmas Basket, I made it just for you."
"How can I ever thank you? My life was changed, it was made new."
"I need one thing", she replied, "Help me make more Christmas baskets, for children just like you."
So they made many more baskets just like me,
It spread Christmas joy, and Jesus's love for them they could clearly see.

At Grammie's House

At Grammie's House
by
Ashley Jones
(age 15)

When we visit with my family there is something you will find...
All the smiling faces, their voices buzz right through my mind.
Us children, through the house we quickly run,
At Grammie's House it is always so much fun!
The aroma of goodies often floats right through the place,
We start to fill our bellies, we do it with much haste.
There is always a small child to snuggle on Grampa's knee,
While aunts, uncles, and cousins tell stories with great glee!
That happy buzz will never be far away.
Throughout our lifetimes, I hope this joy will always stay!

My Best Friend

 My Best Friend
by
Ashley Jones
(age 15)

When you have a special friend, they are always there.
Your secret joys and dreams you can freely share.
You can show your silly side, and have a smile or two!
The time we spend together is always too far and few.
We are satisfied to just talk, and share our memories made.
Those funny moments, in our hearts will never fade.
We are kindred spirits and bosom friends you see,
Like peanut butter and jelly we will always be.

"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly".
Proverbs 18:24a

Faith for the Rain

Faith for the Rain

 (A narrative poem)

by
Ashley Jones
(age 15)

The farmers were working very hard to hand water their crops each day
The green plants were turning brown, on the ground their leaves lay.
They needed rain to come to water their crops, you see
Without it they didn't know what their lives would come to be.
The long winter was coming, what would they feed their familys at night?
All of their thoughts turned to fright.
They had a prayer meeting at church the next day
The farmers gathered together, and began to pray.
They decided that their situation was grim,
But as they were leaving the sky started to dim.
The clouds grew darker, small drops started to fall
When the farmers decided they shouldn't leave after all.
Back into the church they quickly went,
Praising God for the answer to the prayer they had just sent.
The rain continued to fall, and formed large puddles on the ground.
The farmers went home that night with a new lesson they had found.
You can have faith, even when your situation doesn't seem great,
God hears your prayers, He will never be late.
The farmers always remembered that lesson, it was plain.....
No matter what your problem, God will bring the rain.

The Charm Bracelet

The Charm Bracelet
by
Ashley Jones
(age 15 )

The new bracelet sparkles so brightly,
On my wrist it hangs lightly.
All the charms have a special meaning in my heart.
Each one has their own part.

The American flag; I am thankful to be free,
The cross, to symbolize the One who died for me.
A softball; the sport I like to play,
And a birthstone to show I was born in May.

An apron; I really like to bake,
A pencil to symbolize the poems I often make.

On my wrist that bracelet still continues to  shine,
The sparkling piece of jewelry that will always be mine.

Balls

Summer Writing Contest
(BALLS)

 Balls
by
Ashley Jones
(age 15)

Dribbling the ball down the court,
Basketball is a wonderful sport.

Hearing the crack of a bat,

Baseball players are great at that.

Through the goal posts the football does fly.

Watch those guys run on by.
There is a silence as the player takes his swing,
Playing golf is a wonderful thing.
Kicking the ball, look at it go.
Soccer players zig-zag to and fro.
Hit the ball with your hand,
You don't want the volleyball to land in the sand.
So little time, yet so much to do,
Which sport is the favorite one to you?

The Man of God

The Man of God
by
Ashley Jones
(dedicated to her father)
(age 14)

He wakes up very early when everyone else is asleep,
He goes downstairs so silently, he doesn't make a peep.
On his knees he talks to God, "Thank you for my children and my wife,
but thank you most especially for my very blest life."
As he opens up his Bible he thinks how great Sunday will be.
He turns the tear-stained pages, "this old book is the key."
"Lord speak to me that I may preach to my flock on how to act,
I want to show them what is wrong and what the Bible says is fact."
We should be thankful for these men of God and what they do each day.
Take some time right now to pray, these God fearing men are the way.

What Jesus Did For Me

What Jesus Did For Me
by
Ashley Jones
(age 14)
On a Mount called Golgotha, a dark and dreary place
Jesus hung on that cross, my dreadful sins he did erase.
The angry crowd stood all around him
They shouted, "King of the Jews, ha....what a king!"
Death will soon come upon Him, grave where is thy sting?
"You saved others, now save yourself", they cried without any care
Then Jesus thought to himself, in three days I will be back there.
We were among the crowd mocking Jesus that sad day
But halleljuah, praise His name we have heard of the way
Even though we scoffed, spit, and beat
Jesus forgave and endured the instense heat.
Now in Heaven He does sit, with glory all around
Instead of throns on His head He is rightfully crown'd.
